Verio is ending support for both FreeBSD servers and for the Verio custom control panel. The systems architecture currently hosting these services is scheduled to be taken offline on January 16, 2017.
If you have one more more accounts using either of these services, you can upgrade to a more modern, Linux-based platform, at no extra charge, by transferring your website(s) to the new Verio platform. We’ll even include cPanel, still at no extra charge, though you’re under no obligation to use cPanel if you prefer to install a different control panel.
What’s Happening?
As you know, for the past several months, we have been in the process of upgrading, modernizing, and consolidating customer accounts from a variety of outdated hosting platforms to ones that are current and maintained by upstream providers. Once this process is complete, the old platforms will be taken offline and dismantled. Unfortunately, for a number of business and technical reasons, Verio is ending support for FreeBSD servers, as well as for its custom control panel solution.
What We’re Offering
If you choose to transfer your website(s) to our Linux-based (OpenVZ) platform, you’ll be upgrading to a significantly more modern hosting environment. We’ll match your account’s current level of disk space and RAM, and we’ll provide you with a 64-bit CentOS 6 virtual server, as well as a cPanel license, should you choose to activate it, which includes access to the cPanel support team, software updates that seamlessly keep your server current, and a knowledgeable and ever-growing community — all at no additional cost.
Option 1: Transfer Your Own Account
We’re in the process of setting up an account for you on the new platform. You should receive another email from us very soon letting you know that a container is ready for you on the new platform, and you can begin the process of configuring your server and transferring your files and domains. For information on transferring your files please see the transition information site.
Option 2: Let Us Help
There is also be an option to have us help you with the migration of your account. If you choose to take advantage of this assisted-migration option, we will do our best to get you set up on the new platform, at no extra charge, though we do want to say up front that we can’t guarantee success by the January 16th shutdown of the old platform. The email you get from us, once your account has been provisioned on the new platform, will include instructions for selecting this assisted-migration option.
Do I Have To Move My Account to Verio’s Linux-Based Servers?
No. However, if you would prefer not to move your account to the new Verio platform, you will need to make other arrangements for your account. We value your business and do not want to lose you as a customer, but our first priority is to make sure that your website, email, and related services continue to work correctly. As that will no longer be possible for your account, in its current configuration, on our hosting platform, we recommend you find another place to host your account as soon as possible.
The old platform is scheduled to be taken offline permanently on January 16, and if you have not moved your account to the new Verio platform or made arrangements with another provider by then, your files and email will not be recoverable. In fact, we recommend that you back up your files now to a local machine (i.e., your computer’s hard drive, not the Internet) to prevent any data loss when the old platform goes offline. If you choose not to continue hosting your account with Verio, you will receive a pro-rated refund for any remaining time on your current payment term when the old platform shuts down.
